WHAT IS IT?

In conjunction with the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and Centre ICE Summit, the Summer ICE Jamboree will bring Novice hockey players from across Alberta together to be immersed in the excitement of international hockey and the thrill of learning and playing alongside new teammates. Players will register individually and be placed on teams which will represent each of the eight nations competing in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup – Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

The event runs August 11-12, 2018 at the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton. Participation in this fun-filled weekend will include five half-ice games and a complimentary ticket to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup gold medal game on Saturday, August 11.

Registration is open to players born in 2010 and 2011. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis and the deadline to register is Friday, July 27.

Hockey Alberta staff will be on-site to provide coaches with support in facilitating the new Intro to Hockey format. There will also be drop-in information sessions for parents and the public to attend to learn more about this new approach to Novice hockey. Interested in Participating?

Players will register individually and be placed on teams which will represent each of the eight nations competing in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup – Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. Teams will compete in two divisions, based on birth year.

Games: Five (5) games, one (1) hour each

Interested in Coaching?

Summer ICE Jamboree will host twelve (12) teams, with two (2) coaches per team. Each team will participate in five (5) half-ice games on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12. Hockey Alberta will be present over the course of the weekend providing mentorship and best practices to coaches in regards to the Intro to Hockey model.

QUESTIONS

A: For more information on the Intro to Hockey Model, please visit Hockey Alberta’s website.

A: As per the Intro to Hockey Model utilized by Hockey Alberta, teams are divided into two separate age categories. All players born in 2010 will play against players of the same birth year. Similarly, all players born in 2011 will play against others born in 2011. For more information on the Intro to Hockey model, please see the question above.

A: Summer ICE Jamboree will have rotating goaltenders as per the Intro to Hockey Model. Those on a team interested in the goaltender position will rotate through the position over the weekend. Goaltender equipment will be provided for each team.

A: Spots are limited for the weekend event. If you do not get into the tournament, please fill out the registration form and ensure you list the quantity as “0”. By completing the registration form with a quantity of zero, this ensures we have your information, but does not prompt you to pay. Registrants will then be added to the waitlist. If spots come available for the Jamboree, we will contact those on the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis.

A: Participants will be randomly selected to teams which will represent one of the eight nations competing in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup – Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

A: Players are placed on teams based on the experience noted in their registration. Teams within each division will be balanced to the best of our abilities. Teams will be randomly assigned a country which they will represent for the event.

A: Each child will receive one complimentary ticket to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup gold medal game on Saturday, August 11 as a part of their registration package. If you would like to purchase additional tickets, please fill out the ‘Tickets’ section of your child’s registration form. In order for your entire group to be seated together in these specially-priced seats, advance notice is required. If you have chosen to purchase additional tickets, you will be contacted by a member of our Customer Service team to process payment.

A: Players will participate in five (5) games over the event. Each game will be one (1) hour. Players will receive a jersey representing a Hlinka Gretzky Cup nation, which they will wear for the weekend and can take home as a keepsake after the event. Participants will also receive a complimentary ticket to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup gold medal game on Saturday, August 11.

A: No, meals are not part of the registration fee. There are several food venues on-site as well as near the Downtown Community Arena. Participants are also welcome to bring snacks with them.

A: We will offer a full refund up to July 27th. Any cancellations past this date, a 50% cancellation fee will be incurred.
