The newest announced tenant for the Edmonton Arena District will be Delta Hotels and Resorts.

“Today we are here to announce the development of a 50-plus storey tower that will feature a fantastic new 362-room, four star hotel and over 200 luxury condominiums,” said Daryl Katz, chairman of the Katz Group of Companies.

Katz, along with Mayor Don Iveson and President and CEO of Delta Ken Greene, announced Delta as the hotel partner for the Edmonton Arena District project at the Art Gallery of Alberta on Monday.

Katz said, “Delta is a great Canadian success story and we couldn’t be more proud to have them here with us today.”

Greene described the new hotel as a property unlike any in the city of Edmonton currently.

“I know this will be the best property in Edmonton,” Greene said. “I think Edmonton is looking for a product of this nature. This will be far superior than anything that’s in the marketplace. The design is fabulous, there will be new construction and new construction is always a big benefit to a hotel and the financial commitment in terms of the quality of the product and amenities is absolutely there. We expect to be the best hotel in the marketplace by far.”

The new hotel in downtown Edmonton will stand at over 50 storeys in height, and will house upscale amenities such as a 24,000 sq. ft. meeting space, a 9500 sq. ft. ballroom, a luxury pool, expansive fitness facilities, an outdoor terrace and high-end food and beverage options.

“It’s been over 30 years since a major, new hotel was built in downtown Edmonton,” Katz said. “That says a lot about where we’ve been. Today’s announcement, with Delta’s commitment to Edmonton, and the images you see around you say a lot about where we’re going.”
